The over 60 hour long operation at the government institute in Pampore outside Srinagar ended on Wednesday with the killing of two terrorists. Meanwhile, the Army has foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) at Tangdhar in Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir.
Atleast two terrorists are believed to have attempted to cross the LoC in Tangdhar which was thwarted by the Army. Search is underway to locate the terrorists.
Heavy firing in Pampore
Terrorists got inside the government run Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) on Monday morning and an encounter began soon after in which one soldier was injured on the first day.
Heavy firing has been on since morning in the seven storey EDI building in which one terrorist was killed on Tuesday evening and the second was killed on Wednesday. A third terrorist was suspected to be present inside but that was ruled out in the search later.
Intermittent firing has been going on over the last 48 hours with heavy firing and explosions in between. The Army fired mortars and rockets on the building in an attempt to either lush them out or localise them to one corner of the building.
The Army had consciously avoided moving in quickly and was particularly cautious as it lost five men in the earlier terrorist attack on the institute in February this year.
Army officials said that door to door search of the 60 rooms in the building was a tedious task due to the possibility that they could be rigged with explosives.
The EDI which imparts vocational training to youth has been shut for the last few months due to the continuing unrest in the valley. Army officials said an educational institute could have been deliberately selected to portray it as an attack by the security forces and use it as a strategy to keep educational institutions closed as part of the ongoing protests.   input the Hin
